                                                             --A Case Study--

To some, it may seem that the license of a Wisconsin engineer can be taken at the pleasure of a governmental body with jurisdiction.   But when does it go too far?  When is such professional discipline justified, especially when the punishment can be so severe as to deprive an engineer of their license and ability to earn a living?  The answer is often unclear and can vary with perspective and professional, societal, and personal norms. 

But you be the judge.  Our September 9, 2013 meeting is an ethics presentation in the form of an interactive real life case study.   The program and the story--guided by attorney Alan G. B. Kim, Jr.--is designed to throw back the curtains on the dark subject of license revocation and shine a bright light upon the statutes, regulations, administrative decisions, and case law applicable to Wisconsin’s engineers as they work to satisfy their professional and personal ethical engineering obligations.

 Presenter:

Attorney Alan G. B. Kim, Jr. is a Shareholder in the Madison office of von Briesen & Roper, s.c.  Mr. Kim’s practice focuses on construction law and commercial, real estate, contract and land use litigation matters.  Alan’s practice includes the defense of design professional errors and omissions claims.

Alan is a 1991 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison Law School.  In addition to the Wisconsin Bar, Mr. Kim is also admitted to the District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, Eastern District of Michigan, Washington D.C. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6^th and 7^th Circuits.

Alan is a frequent lecturer whose guest lectures include those for the UW Madison College of Engineering, Madison Area Technical College, trade groups, and the State Bar of Wisconsin.
